Newington is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut.   Newington is an older, mainly residential suburb located South of downtown Hartford.   It has a population of over 30,000 residents.

Newington has a history of nearly 375 years, although it was established officially as a separate town in 1871.  Settlers established residence as early as 1636.

Mill Pond Park is Newington's largest town park located on Garfield Street.  The park facilities include a baseball field, boundless playground, soccer fields, tennis courts, outdoor pool, basketball court, concession stand, walking nature trail, ice skating, football field, fishing pond for children under 16 years of age.   The park is also home to Mill Pond Falls.  Friendly leashed dogs are welcome. 

Annually, the Town of Newington holds their Extravaganza at Mill Pond Park which concludes with a spectacular evening fireworks display.  The Annual Extravaganza features food vendors, musicians, paddleboats, a petting zoo, pony rides, entertainment, fireworks, games and many other family-oriented activities.    There’s a week of activities leading up to the Extravaganza including a Family Pool Party, Family Fun Run, a Summer Carnival and a Concert in the Park with and Adult Beverage Garden.
